Independence built me before I built anything for anyone else. Watching young people fail without it is the reason I do this work.

Why I do this work.

"I was raised to be independent. That confidence is the reason I am here. I build so other young people can have the same."
Yosmerys Aparicio Cuencas, Founder and CEO of Supporting Communities Australia
Yosmerys Aparicio Cuencas Founder of SCA · Creator of EYL™

I was trained to be independent from childhood. Not because I was unusual, but because that is how I was raised. The confidence that came from it built everything I have done since: leaving Venezuela for Australia, learning a new system from the bottom up, founding an NDIS-registered provider from scratch. Independence as a learned skill is not theory for me. It is my life.

Then I spent eight years on the floor of Western Sydney youth services. Across OOHC, NDIS, Youth Justice and community services I kept seeing the same pattern. Young people failing. Not because they lacked capability, but because no one had taught them the life skills I took for granted. The repetition. The rapport. The structured chance to practise.

So I built it. Supporting Communities Australia exists to do for young people what was done for me. Elevate Youth Lab™ is the four-stage framework behind it, turning independence from a vague goal into a learnable skill. Team with the Queen is the podcast where I ask other builders the questions that matter. Rapport first. Capacity second. Independence always. None of it is theory. All of it came from a life lived this way.

The system has plenty of people pointing at problems. What I do is build the structures that close them.
